    Rain today here in Wisconsin, but beautiful gorgeous weather is on the horizon for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend with dry weather, very light winds, temps in the 60's, low humidity and partly cloudy skies. How much more perfect can riding get? This should be a very high mileage riding weekend in Wisconsin as people head out camping and hitting the trails on this busy holiday weekend.

    Just adding to the discussion of what we eat before/after, I find that I have more trouble maintaining good energy when I eat "quick carbs". I need to eat a more moderate carb diet balanced with protein and fat. The quick carbs pick me up initially, but they do not sustain me, I will drop off and "bonk" like what was suggested before. If I am on a longer ride, I bring along snacks, but again having to be careful not to eat those "quick carbs". Some of the protein bars work pretty well, sometimes trail mix (heavy on the nuts with lesser amounts of raisins or berries). Or a fruit with a stick of string cheese. Afterwards, it depends on how hard and how long I was riding, but if I am in need, I will first grab a glass of milk, and perhaps toss in a little chocolate. The milk is a great mixture of protein, carb and fat. My rides are usually an hour or so after dinner, but sometimes after breakfast on the weekends. One time, I rode after eating a donut, and I seriously bonked after the first 10 miles!
