ENDOMONDO IN GENERAL
» How does Endomondo work?
You will get the most fun with Endomondo if you have a mobile phone with GPS - either internally or as an external device or a Garmin GPS device. Whenever you go running, cycling, roller skating etc., bring your mobile phone and turn on the free Endomondo program. At the end of your workout, you press stop on the phone, and your track is automatically uploaded to your profile at Endomondo.com. Next time you log in, you will be able to see your latest workout including a map, distance, pace, end time and split times etc. In addition, Endomondo offers you a wide range of services for free:
- Keep a complete training log for all your distance related sports.
- Challenge your buddies on a specific track or in another category
- Find sports buddies
- Create a team for your buddies
- Keep track of what sports your friends are doing
If you use a Garmin device, you have to manually import your workout data from the device to your Endomondo profile, with a few simple steps.
A lot of other cool functions are under way as Endomondo is still in a beta version. To install the free program on your mobile, log in and click on Download. It only takes a few minutes before you are up and running!
» How do I know if Endomondo is something I will like?
If you want to have more fun while being physically active, then Endomondo is certainly interesting for you. Endomondo creates a community around the activities of you and your friends and this enables you to be social while exercising without losing flexibility. No matter whether you are already active or want to be more active, Endomondo has the functions that make it all a little more fun. That's worth a shot, wouldn't you say?
» What does Endomondo mean?
‘Endo’ is short for endorphins, which are natural substances that are released during sports, while ‘mondo’ means world in Esperanto. In short, Endomondo is your world of endorphins.
» What does it mean that Endomondo is in beta?
It means that this is an early release and therefore, we are still working on improving some existing functions and on developing new and cool functions.
» Do you have any special offers for companies and their employees?
With Endomondo, doing sports becomes much more fun. You and your colleagues can get your own community around your activities.
A company package provides you with company challenges, weekly status reports and superior technical support. Let us know at companysales@endomondo.com if you are interested in a company solution
If you want to try out Endomondo before buying a company package, we suggest signing up and creating a team for your employees first.
» How much does it cost to use Endomondo?
Installation of the basic tracker is free but you will incur a minor extra cost from your mobile operator when using the tracker because you transmit data from your mobile to the Internet. A typical workout lasting 30 minutes normally cost you around 0.1 USD or 0.07 Euro if you have a normal pay-per-use subscription (1 USD per MB). Please note that the cost is significantly higher outside your home country. We recommend that you check the cost with your operator before using Endomondo - especially in foreign countries.
» Who gets to see my data and live activities?
Your Profile, Friend & Teams and Workouts are only visible to the people you are friends with. Your friends can also see your latest position on the Live Map. Other people can only see your name and profile picture and ask you to become friends.

» My average speed is way too low!
If your average speed is lower than it should be, it is most likely because you have a few tracks that seem to have lasted many hours. This can be because you forgot to end the program correctly after your latest workout. In most cases, you can delete a workout by going to Workouts, choosing the relevant session and pressing Delete. Be careful only to delete the wrong tracks. After this, your average speed should go up.
» I cannot see the maps properly!

First try to check your e-mail accounts spam filter, you might find the e-mail here. Otherwise contact us at support@endomondo.com.

» How do you calculate the calorie consumption?
For all distance based sports, we calculate the calories consumed as a function of sport, distance and weight of the athlete. In other words, the consumption is equal to a certain amount of calories per km per kg of body weight. This amount of calories is a factor depending on the type of sports activity, i.e., it is relatively low for transportation cycling compared to running.
The formula looks like this: Calorie consumption in kcal = X kcal * body weight in kg * distance in km
For instance, the factor for walking is 0.8. For a person with a weight of 75 kg taking a walk of 5 km, the formula looks like this:
Calorie consumption in kcal = 0.8 kcal * 75 kg * 5 km
Calorie consumption = 300 kcal
» What is 'Peptalk' and how does it work?
With Peptalk, you can send a message to a friend that is out tracking right now!
You type the message in plain English, and the text is then converted to speech and
played back on your friend's mobile phone through the headphones or speaker. Use this
feature to motivate a friend while he or she is working out. You just put in a little
more effort when you know someone is following your performance.
The Peptalk feature is available from the Live Map (push the Peptalk button), and
from the Newsfeed on your Home page when a friend is out tracking. In both cases, you
can only send Peptalk to friends that are using a version of the Endomondo Sports Tracker
that supports this. Currently, only the newest Symbian app does this, but it is coming to
Android and iPhone very, very soon.

» Do I need a specific mobile subscription to use Endomondo?
Endomondo works with all mobile operators and phone networks. However, your mobile subscription needs to include data transmissions (at least GPRS or UMTS) to have your workout data sent to www.endomondo.com.
» Do I need a phone signal to track my activities?
No, you don't need network/phone signal for Endomondo to work. You can always upload your tracks later. However, if you want Live tracking you need to have a phone/network signal and turn the Automatic Upload/Online Tracking on.
» Why does GPS coverage vary?
GPS is based on at least 24 satellites placed more than 20.000 km above the surface of the Earth. The coverage depends on the lines of sight between your position and the GPS satellites and at times, high buildings and poor weather conditions can result in unstable coverage.
» How does built-in GPS affect the battery life of my phone?
The effect varies a lot from phone to phone and it depends on how many other applications you are using at the same time. For instance, it often helps significantly to turn off Bluetooth and other services if you are not using them anyway. Most phones can track for 4-6 hours before recharging, whereas the best phones can track for 10-12 hours before recharging.
» Do you have an audio coach?
Not at the moment, unfortunately. We used to have an audio coach but in July 2009, due to technical issues, we had to remove the service for a while. We know that a lot of you appreciated it and we are working on launching it again.
» Can I use my phone while Endomondo is running?
Yes, you can use all other functions in your mobile phone as usual while using Endomondo.
» My phone has trouble finding the GPS signal!
Unfortunately, we cannot control the GPS signal, and we are aware that it sometimes takes a while to get a signal. Many phones have trouble getting a GPS signal indoor. If the problem persists, check your GPS settings. If you have a Nokia phone, it can help to edit the following phone settings: Go to Menu, Tools, Settings, General and scroll down and click on Positioning. Go to Positioning Server, Server Address and write supl.nokia.com if this is not the default setting.
