Valeria Mura Sascha.....please tell me why your run ends in a forest........

Sascha Heid Nothing happenend in the forest, i just stopped endomondo. I'm stupid because after the marathon i thought i can run any distance barefoot without problems. Believing that was naive. The marathon was on big smooth roads. Running 20km on ordinary field roads is something else entirely. In the end i could barely walk. I will return to my smooth 10km route for a while :-)

Sascha Heid was out running. He tracked 6.46 mi in 52m:27s. Small race in the neighborhood. My plan to improve my 10k PB was destroyed by several miles of gravel. Considering that, it went very well and was good exercise for the feet.
In retrospect it was funny how i tried to hang on to the top runners in the beginning. It did not feel that fast but when endo told me i did the first km in 3:49 i knew i would soon run into trouble. Little did i know that this trouble was tons of gravel, but that was a good excuse to run alot slower :-)

Sascha Heid was out running for 1h:54m:20s. Marathon part 2

Endo crashed. I did the whole marathon barefoot in less then 4 hours. It was awesome and my feet are fine. I had more problems with my calf and thighs which forced me to slow down on the last 15k.
Thank you my dear feet. i love you!!! They got a little bit sensitive starting from km 21, but they stayed on that level and it did not get worse. They filmed my feet from a motorcycle during the run, maybe they include it into their little film they make about the event.:-)

Ethan Michelson I have no doubt you'll do it. My first marathon was 4:02:58. Five months later it was 3:33:36 (both are gun times, since there was no chip start). 13 months after that 3:02:31 (chip time). You'll improve very quickly.

Sascha Heid Thanks Alexandre! It's alot easier now that we have spring. In the winter i had to work REALLY HARD to get below 40m, but now it's just a regular time.

Sascha Heid was out running. He tracked 5.03 mi in 50m:50s. Not used to the heat and feet not fully recovered. Did i get these blisters just because the asphalt was warm? And despite the low speed i was constantly out of breath. No wait, lets call it a recovery run and focusing on form. Yeah!

Sascha Heid was out running. He tracked 6.50 mi in 49m:12s.

Personal best 10 km of 46m:15s which is a 0m:54s improvement.
New PB, but i did not have as much skin on my feet as yesterday. One day off to grow more for the half-marathon on saturday.

I find running faster difficult not only because it is more exhausting but because i start losing my stability. I feel like im floating helplessly in space. Any advice? :-)

Plain Sole Cout Sascha! I think that Barefoot Morten is offering some good and sound advice. With BF running, it is important that you gives a significant amount of attention to your running form. Having read your various experiences over the past few months, i would suggest that you manage barefoot running and prolonged period of exposure to wet conditions. In addition, I would also recommend that you remain flexible on your legs (bend them slightly), shorten your strides and instead increase leg turnover (high cadence). As you will get used to it in time, you will manage to balance your body.

Sascha Heid Alexandre, i am aware of all the theory. I was reading ken bob's website before i even started running in december 2010. barefoot-running was the primary reason i started to run because it changed my view of running from boring and tedious to fun and enjoyable. Unfortunately though i got into the vibrams very quickly and stuck with those for a year, which i now consider a waste of time. I find it difficult however to judge my own form. Of course i do bend my knees, otherwise i would not even be able to do a single step, but i guess i could bend them even more. I did videotape myself on the treadmill but it's still difficult to judge. Running with a high cadence is something i struggled with from the beginning because it feels difficult and tedious. But i don't see it as a problem anymore, because when you do run really barefoot, you come across so many different surfaces that your style and cadence constantly changes. The more obstacles i see on the ground the higher my cadence gets, so i always change from high speed long strides on clean asphalt to low speed and very high cadence on gravel, and everything inbetween. It may be naive but i tend to believe that running barefoot will optimize your form by itself. And it is fun!!!!! :-))
