+++This challenge is for translators and interpreters ONLY. See the conditions below. +++

The 1 Million Miles Challenge is a project initiated by Tanya Quintieri and Zbynek Taborsky. They are always looking for ways to create awareness for our profession. With 1,000,000 Miles, they found a way to run an in-industry campaign to raise awareness for health and fitness issues, but also found a common ground to connect to the rest of the world.

The rules are easy:

Sign up on http://1000000miles.com. ONLY translators and interpreters can participate. After signing up and joining the challenge here, please introduce yourself in the main comment thread, feel free to state your language combination, and don't forget to include a link that will point us to your website or online profile so we can check if you are a translator or interpreter. Failing to do so will result in removal from the challenge without further notice. If you have any questions about the challenge and/or the rules, feel free to get in touch at 1mm@the-translators.com.

The campaign runs from May 1, 2016 till April 30, 2017.

During this time, we have to collect 1.000.000 miles, covered by YOU. Running, biking, hiking, swimming... doesn't matter.
Be part of the MOVEMENT!

Sign up and find more information at www.1000000miles.com - You miles will only be counted towards the challenge if you've signed up on the website. It is not enough to join the challenge here.

Hey Rafa, Yes, the new challenge was launched and you received an email today. It's a shame you don't want to invite your colleagues to the global 1mm challenge. Or better yet, make them participate in both! :)

Now that the challenge is coming to an en, I'd like to thank you for this initiative, which has really motivated me to get up and move ;-)

Will we have a new 1,000,000 challenge starting April 2017? I'd love to keep it up!

I'm actually going to start a three-month challenge of my own to motivate Brazilian Portuguese translators and interpreters to get moving, too. Let's all improve our quality of life and get rid of stress! :-D

Hi, I'm here for a while now but I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Malgorzata and I'm Pol-Eng translator and interpreter based in Northern Ireland. I like walking, jogging and I have recently started to do some cycling with my kids. All just for pleasure and fun. I'm very happy to be a part of this challenge and thanks for adding me.

Hi everybody, my name is Caterina. I'm a Germany based Italian conference interpreter and translator.
I translate legal texts and marketing copy from German, English and Dutch into Italian.

Unfortunately I couldn't contribute to the challenge over the past few months, as a knee issue kept me from running. Now, 5 months after the operation, I still haven't recovered completely and I don't know if I'll ever be able to run "seriously" (training for half mars etc.) again.
But it's time to overcome the frustration and disappointment and start moving again. After all I can still swim, cycle, take long walks and do whatever doesn't aggravate my knee.
I'm happy to join this challenge!!

Hi, I'm Jenny, I live in the Netherlands and I translate from Dutch to English.
Since January I have a standing desk and a deskbike. I have been collecting 10K steps a day for about 2 years now on my smartphone. I also try to get out everyday for a walk and fresh air. I'm happy to be part of this special community!
