Top Performances & Olympia Implications
As I reflect on another amazing event, the 2025 Olympia was one of the most dynamic competitions in recent history. In some divisions, a new generation of athletes came forward. In others, old champions showed that they’re not going anywhere.
As the most popular and highly anticipated division, I’ll start with the Men’s Open. In my Olympia 2025 preview, I had Samson winning, Derek in second, and Hadi in third. I managed to get four out of my five top 5 contenders right, but not the placings.
To the suprise of many, including myself, Derek Lunsford wrapped a dominant year up, claiming his second Olympia title. His win marks the end of an incredible season after his victories at the Arnold Classic and Pittsburgh Pro. I loved his overall package, but I thought Hadi had done just enough to take the title. However, it seems that the judges preferred Derek’s shape over Hadi’s conditioning.
I had Hadi winning at pre-judging, and even thought that Andrew Jacked had a chance to take the title. Hadi brought his trademark sharpness but fell agonisingly short yet again, while Andrew delivered his best-ever package.
The biggest suprise to me was last year’s champion, Samson Dauda, slipping down to fourth. I’m really not sure where he goes from here. His drop is one of the biggest ever seen for a reigning Olympia champion.
With Chris Bumstead out of the Classic picture, Ramon Dino rose to the occasion after years of coming so close. His maiden Olympia win means that he becomes the new face of the division.
I knew he had a chance in his updates, but I thought that Terrance would have enough to beat him. Terence has the best classical shape by quite some margin, but is significantly smaller than the other classical athletes. Ramon brought an amazing blend of conditioning and symmetry to take his first-ever title, with Terrance taking third, to my surprise.
Other notable performances included Ryan Terry, who won his third physique title, and Eduarda Bezerra (Wellness), who dethroned Isabelle Nunes. Ryan looked phenomenal, bringing his trademark abs and conditioning. He has one of my favorite physiques out of all the divisions.
In a groundbreaking Olympia year, five new division champions were crowned. This year marked a turning point for many divisions, while others stayed firmly in line. As the Olympia draws to a close, I’ll take some time to reflect on a memorable event before the Olympia qualifiers begin.
Final Thoughts
With the Olympia wrapped up for another year, it’s hard to put into words what went down this year. Eleven athletes rose to the occasion and became the best in the world in their respective divisions. For the other competitors, it’s time to go home and reflect on what could have been and how to improve.
As the 2025 Mr. Olympia ends, it’s time to look forward to another exciting and unpredictable season. As I reflect on what went down in my 2025 Olympia recap, this year’s spectacle will be hard to top. After a short break, I’ll be bringing you the news on what promises to be another amazing season full of excitement and surprises.
